            This website discusses the root of the Columbian drug trade and some of the biggest players involved. Columbian drug trade started off as a small business, which turned into one of the most sophisticated and violent drug trafficking organizations in the world. Some of the players involved were families such as the Medellin cartel and Cali cartels were two of the largest and most successful cartels in the games.

                        This documentary talks about the Columbian drug trade in the 1970’s and 80’s. This film focuses much more on the problems in South Florida primarily in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. There are many interviews with some of the biggest players in transporting and distributing the drugs throughout the US. Along with the

            This website provides short youtube video’s summarizing drug movement in Miami and South Florida. The website does not necessarily provide any new information that is not included in the other sources but it provides plenty of links to other publications which do provide new information. In one of the links written in Time Magazine, the article titled “Paradise Lost” discusses the corruption in Miami area and the violence that has taken over the once very peaceful town.

The war on drugs

I am having a hard time deciding what my topic for my research paper is going to be. It's beween either war on drugs present day in Mexico and how the drug cartels are taking over towns in Mexico and moving into America. Or my other option would be the columbian drug cartels of the '70's and '80s and it's influence in South Florida. For either topic though I would try and make an argument about how drug cartels can dictate Government. The demand for these illegal drugs make people act irrationally and create a large amount of violence. In fact in the last year or so, there have been over 58,000 murders in Mexico alone due to the drug war. Similar to Mexico and primarily in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale in the 1970's and '80's Miami was dubbed the as the Murder capital of the United States. As well as Time magazine came out with a cover with the title "Paradise Lost" referring to Miami increased violence in Miami and how it was no longer an admirable place to live. I could try and create an argument discussing the power and control the drug cartels hold and how the corruption in our political system is a result of the drug cartels. Due to the war on drugs, crimes such as money laundering and others of that nature became very popular. Other problems with the war on drugs and our corrupt political system was the fact that there were and are many dirty cops out there today. Much of our legal system in the late '70's and '80's was very corrupt due to the power that these drug cartels held. It became such a big problem that even that cops that were not corrupt and were hard working became afraid of the cartels and did nothing to stop them.
